Review on πŸ’‘ Cooler Master V850 SFX Gold Full Modular: Efficient 850W Power Supply with ATX Bracket, Mini-ITX Compatible - 10 Year Warranty by Youssef Coolidge

Great PSU, terrible fan algorithm

I am powered by this ROG STRIX 3090 + i9 11900K in NR200 case and the PSU handles high loads well, I measured 760W peak load with GPU and CPU. their maximum performance limits are fixed. The problem lies in the horrible fan algorithm, which instead of gradually increasing the fan speed, randomly spins the fan from 0 to very high speeds under idle load, which is very annoying and makes it impossible to sleep the next time the computer is turned on to bed or watching a movie. Under load, the noise is definitely acceptable and the GPU fans spin close to their maximum speed, but this fan isn't as quiet as advertised, I have no idea who tested it. looks like someone is in a hurry. I contacted Cooler Master support and they advised to return this product and buy the v850 SFX V2 but version 2 which should fix this problem is nowhere to be found or mislabeled in stores making it quite a lottery, when trying to get it, probably because no one wants to buy version 1 with the annoying fan. It would be nice if Cooler Master would admit its mistake and prepare some kind of service action, albeit for a small fee, to eliminate this annoying problem or at least create some kind of guide that would allow more experienced users to fix it. this alone will even void the warranty. I use my computer for gaming and work - every time I hear this fan spinning I want to stick a pencil in it. Aside from the fan noise issue, the PSU has performed great so far.
