I've been buying them since 2008, more than ten years. I only use them for cycling. When these things first came out, they were amazing. In my photo on the left how they looked before. They were really big and wrapped tightly around my ankle. However, the quality has deteriorated over the years. The two boxes in the middle and on the right look like they are now. They are much smaller and no longer wrap around my ankle. Now they do a claw grip like a figure eight because they are thinner and smaller. This is a problem because due to the reduced grip when cycling, they detach and fly onto the road. I have ridden my bike several times a week for the past 12 years and have lost several bikes this way. The old ones didn't have this problem, only the new ones. Maybe it's a way to make you want to come back and buy more. But it's not safe for me to flip the "U" and race through multiple lanes to pick them up because the streets are very busy. After such a long period of use, I can say that there is one thing a buyer can do to increase the life expectancy. These things will last MUCH longer if they aren't unfolded, unfolded and snapped into place. When you snap them in place, the liner peels away, exposing the inner metal much more quickly. It is better to press one end of the band to the ankle with your thumb and wrap it around the ankle with the other hand. It also gets a better grip that way.
