I needed to fit heavy airlift brackets to a 1-1/2" solid pine bed base. I was a little worried about possible splitting along the wood grain, so I drilled 1/64" more holes than recommended and applied a bit of two-part 2-ton epoxy to the insert's external threads and the holes in the wood when installing. Enough epoxy. To allow the inserts to stay in and bond well with the wood not so much that it catches on the internal threads.Lightly smeared with epoxy the inserts also screwed into the holes very easily. Before installing I did checked the internal threads and the screws I used were finely worked together, it's worth checking out as some inserts seem to have questionable internal threads.
