I'm looking for the best daypack for under $50. TL; DR, it's not. For the price, this daypack has a lot of bells and whistles, but overall the design and construction is poorly executed. I didn't use a camera, so this feature is excluded from this review. Overall Construction: The fabric, stitching and zippers appear to be quite durable and I believe they can withstand high mileage. This backpack is frameless, which is to be expected for a daypack, but thanks to the padding on the back it keeps its shape. Unfortunately, the padding is dense and fits snugly against the back, so is not breathable, perspires quickly and dries slowly. The weight distribution can't be got right which makes this backpack very uncomfortable when fully loaded. Bladder Pocket: An insulated bladder pocket works well, but likely aggravates the already poor rear airflow. Several water bottles and candy bars were left cold and unmelted during a 7-hour summer hike. Leaving your bladder here will keep your water cold throughout the day of the hike. Capacity and Overall Compactness: Although the volume of this bag is 18L, I don't think that's a realistic measurement. I have about 16 liters right away. In other casual backpacks, the outer pockets flare out slightly to accommodate additional volume. Because this fabric doesn't stretch when the main compartment is full, the outer pockets compete with the main pocket for space rather than adding bulk to the pack. If you are looking for a compact backpack, this feature might not bother you. The outer pocket is relatively useless, usually reserved for extra layers, but the fabric doesn't flex and won't hold more than a pack of tissues. The front-most bag has a zipped pocket, but opens vertically in the middle of the bag, allowing small items to fall out if you don't hold the pack level when opening. Alternatively, you can use back pockets. Straps: The chest strap was uncomfortably low for me, and I had to make small adjustments by breaking off a few pieces of plastic in the shoulder straps to make it sit higher on my chest than it is straight. over my chest. The padded hip belt is a very nice feature at this price and fits very well. Unfortunately he's not breathing well and early on in my hike I was sweating on my thighs. Other features: whistle (mine doesn't work), reflector (mine was badly worn after my first trip), sunglass charm. Shoulder strap and roomy elasticated side pockets for extra water. Overall, this backpack is well made and has many features typically found in more expensive backpacks, but it's not very well made or backpacker friendly.
