Review on OXO Adjustable Handheld Mandoline Slicer by Paula Ward

This was my first mandolin as I wanted to see how much I would actually use before investing in a more expensive one. The blade is sharp (husband has a small scar and an interesting party history to prove it lol), the product is relatively durable and I've had no issues with the protective handles. But, and this has been a hindrance to higher rankings, the pieces are uneven. The thickness selector latch is one-sided, so natural cutting pressure will cause it to "give" on the side of the sliding surface opposite the latch. Because of this, the slices will come out in a wedge shape no matter how lightly you try to slice. So if you want to make potato chips, you will end up with crescent shaped chips with a very thin brown edge and a softer thick round edge. Also, as others have pointed out, the first and second best settings are so clean that it really takes some getting used to. If they made a flat plane on the food instead of a curve they would be perfect for veggie chips, but all I get is a thin, wedge-shaped piece of tissue paper. All in all, not a bad buy to see if it's a device you actually use, but if you do you'll probably invest in a better mandolin and donate it to charity.
