Review on Ubiquiti Networks Unifi UAP-AC-PRO-US 802.11ac Dual-Radio PRO Access Point - Single, White by Adam Jackson

For beginners - read if you need help!

We bought these access points to add to our new smart home which came prewired for two people. We've never used hotspots before, so the fact that the product comes with no instructions and says 'go to site' didn't help. We actually returned them and had to buy them back when we realized we wanted a product that didn't require a ceiling outlet. It took us a long time (2 days and we almost had a nervous breakdown) to figure these things out. Here are some tips for those who find themselves in the same situation: 1. To do this, you need a modem and a wireless router. We have a Motorola MB8600 modem (works with Comcast) and an ASUS RT-AC66U.2 wireless router. The internet cable is connected to the modem (to connect to the internet).3. The Ethernet cable needs to be connected from the modem to the wireless router. After completing these steps, you are ready to set up your wireless access point.4. The wireless access point only requires an Ethernet cable. That's good if you're ceiling mounting it as they don't need a separate power supply. The Ethernet cable powers this device, so plug it in.5. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the included small power adapter; which then needs to be plugged into an outlet near your internet modem.6. There is a second ethernet plug in the power adapter, so plug it in and then plug the other end of the ethernet plug into LAN1 on your wireless router. Following these steps will turn on the wireless access point, it should turn on and glow white.7. Next you need to install "Controller". It's not a physical thing that's needed - it's cloud software that needs to be downloaded onto your phone or computer in order to "bind" the devices to you. We used our computer. Go to the Ubiquiti website and click "Downloads" in the top right corner. . Click the UniFi option on the menu bar to view wireless access point downloads. Click on UAP-AC-PRO in the left menu bar. Under "Software" download "UniFi Network Controller 5.12.22 for Windows" or something else. current version.8. While on the site, do yourself a favor and click "Utilities" in the left-hand menu. Download "Ubiquiti Device Detection Tool (Chrome App)". This will add a Chrome browser extension that will help the controller identify your device when you encounter a problem, saving you lots of time and headaches.9. Launch the controller software on your computer/phone and follow the prompts to identify your wireless devices. If you get to the last step and the controller can't find your devices, no problem, you can click "Next" and the control panel will launch. Don't let the last step make you feel like you can't continue—just click Next!10. Once you're in the toolbar and your wireless module isn't listed, run the Chrome detection tool from your browser and it should find it and populate it in the toolbar. Basically, the goal is to force your device to update its status from "Accept Pending" to "Accept" to make it yours - its indicator will turn blue and it will work! I could talk endlessly about how the control panel works, but it would be very difficult to explain. After accepting your device, it is best to search the internet for the best "radio" settings (channels, power) for faster internet transmission. I hope this review helps someone else just trying to use it at home with no networking skills like me.
