I put these chains on my 1998 bladed K1500. Now the truck is used strictly as a yard plow so I don't have to remove the tracks. If you want to increase traction when plowing, mount snow chains! I have them in the back and they make a big difference. I still have weight behind the axle that acts as ballast, but I don't think the weight is needed for traction. You have to be a little more careful as these things bite and you don't want to turn them if you can help. I broke a couple of horizontal chains and I only use a threaded link to fix them. I no longer use "chain tensioners", I just use heavy duty black elastic rubber cords. They hold up better than the chain tensioner bungee. I posted a YT video on how to install these snow chains if you need to see the installation process. Search YT for "How to Install DIY Snow Chains for Winter Weather. Installation of an anti-skid chain with quick coupling. The video must be listed under my name.
