Review on 🌦️ Enhance Outdoor Adventures with the Kestrel Pocket Weather Meter Mount by Stephen Parkell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice compact package, all the weather related readings I need or need in the field

, I'm a weather geek, I love tracking the weather and the Kestrel 5500 gives me all the data I will ever need in a small, compact package. The included weather vane and travel bag are ideal for hiking and mobile applications. I set up the Kestrel software for the iPhone and the software is terrible, the GUI is a joke and almost impossible to use on an iPhone, on an iPad I have to remove the iPad from the keyboard/stand due to the vertical orientation. The Bluetooth connection eats batteries (lithium) and disconnects from the iPhone in a stable manner. If I bought it again, I wouldn't buy the link version and save myself a lot of hassle and money. All in all this is a good solid product that is well made and seems usable in the field. I'm impressed with the performance and features of the device, as well as the battery life after turning off Bluetooth. Disappointed with the remote display feature and the app I deducted a star. As an aside, if you're buying a paddle kit, there's no reason to buy the useless clamp that Kestrel sells to mount it on a tripod. The clamp does not hold the 5500 securely, the blade base can be mounted on a tripod without modification.
