I had a problem with radon at home. The solution was an underground radon evacuation fan. This completely solves our radon problem. However, here is an unforeseen consequence. I have noticed a significant increase in heating costs. Why? Because the fan ran 24/7, blowing a significant amount of heated air out of our conditioned (heated and cooled) underground. The fan did its job too well. There is no need to reduce indoor radon levels to outdoor levels. which is 0.2 pCi/L here. An indoor value of 2 pCi/L is considered safe. This device allowed me to fine tune the radon removal process to achieve a compromise between energy loss and safe indoor radon levels. By controlling the fan on/off interval with this brilliant intermittent cycle timer from BN-LINK, we can regulate radon levels in a way that not only radon but also energy is sucked out of the house. The fan now runs for 15 minutes and is idle for 45 minutes. Doesn't matter. With a long-term average of 2 pCi/L, radon is harmless and the thermostat is happy. And so do we. Problem solved.
