This is my first wheel marking gauge and it's definitely better than the ones at my local wood shop as I needed one that would allow the marking wheel to fit fully into the brass base plate. and this one does. The cutting wheel isn't as sharp as it could be, but a few passes over the sandpaper helped a bit. I think it's good that you also have a fixed cutting disc. I made a flat spot on the bottom panel to keep it from rolling away so it would be nice to have it built in. It would also be better if the measurement markings use the rear end (red part) to measure from as it is difficult to get very accurate measurements from the shaft due to the notch in the bottom plate. But I still don't rely on it for measurement. I would just make it so you could if you wanted to.
