I had bought a home massager like this from Costco a few years ago for a much lower price. This has been discontinued. When we used it to death I bought a used one off ebay and used it to death. I tried to buy the current Homedics model and was sooo disappointed with the weight and performance. After a long search we decided to dig a bit into our pockets and try it out here. The first Thumper I received became too hot to touch under the switch within 5 minutes of use. I sent it back and tried again. The one I have now heats up in the same spot after 20 minutes of use. The weight and weight are similar to my old homedicks. The performance is also similar. The noise level seems to be quieter, but Homedic had loose parts inside that made extra noise when he died, so who knows? The only downsides are 1) less ergonomic design and 2) only three speeds. Has no shock absorber on the handle. My Homedic grip was curved and soft, which somehow made it less tiring when used on someone else. Thumper has three speeds, while Homedics had an "infinite" slide switch for speeds. That's fine because I've been using it at high frequencies in general anyway and have had similar results with Thumper at high frequencies. The low-speed Thumper feels springy, like a fist massage. Other features to miss on Homedics are interchangeable massage nodes and heated nodes. I've never used these features, so not a huge loss. In general I am satisfied with the quality, weight and performance. Sometimes I use it multiple times a day but usually at least once a day for chronic pain and it does its job well. I would recommend. UPDATE: 7/5/19 I've been using it extensively since we bought it with no problems other than overheating and stopping working after about 30-40 minutes of continuous use. A red light came on on the side of the handle that I had never seen before. I have tried letting the device cool down for an hour before using it again. It wouldn't turn on and the red light was still on. I disconnected and reconnected the device, at which point the light went out and the device started working normally again, thank goodness. I lost the manual when I moved, but I'm sure it was there. IF YOUR DEVICE OVERHEATS, TRY TURNING IT OFF TO STAY OFF BEFORE EXIT. In my opinion, this overheating situation covers up a lot of the bad reviews I saw when Thumper stopped working. Nevertheless, a good investment and to be recommended!
