We bought these to take our 10 year old to learn how to make pottery at home. The machine has 3 settings, but only the first two really do anything. Batteries are not included either. The machine runs at high speed to work with clay, but it is very difficult to "throw" the clay at the beginning and make it stick, so it is difficult to shape before it sticks. The instructions were missing a few helpful tips - we found videos on the net. The amount of clay was enough for a couple of sessions for our daughter to play and explore. The jewelry and colors were good to embellish the finished objects. All in all a bit difficult to set up, of course not nearly as good as a professional potter's wheel, but a small challenge and then great fun for an interested child.
