Review on 💡 Phanteks PH-P1200PS: 80+ Platinum Power Supply with Built-in Power Splitter, 1200W, Fully Modular Design, Ideal for Dual System Support by Brian Stepp

Within a week of installing it on a system with significantly lower than specified loads, the fan never turned on during operation, my workstation started randomly shutting down. Enough power is supplied for the system to go into standby mode and the LED lights up so that the reboot looks normal until the next shutdown. I contacted Phanteks support through Revain.com and they told me over the phone to try replacing the 24-pin ATX cable with a secondary one. the one included in the dual system installation kit. That's exactly what I did, and whether with it or not, the power outages got worse and worse over the next few hours, until finally the system wouldn't boot. A physical inspection of the device from the outside showed no overheating or any unusual odors, whatever the problem may be. I didn't notice any voltage fluctuations in the BIOS before the crash, so I couldn't rule out other hardware being the cause (like the motherboard) at this point. I went and bought an EVGA Supernova 1200W from a local store that happened to be in stock and replaced Phanteks and lo and behold the system now powers back on and runs stably, even though the EVGA has an older cable design and is much larger unit and costs about $100 more. Overall I would give this product a high rating. Appreciated due to the creative design (support for two systems), but I would strongly caution against using this outside of experimentation. Such a dramatic error is indicative of either manufacturing or design issues, and judging by the mixed reviews here and from other retailers, I don't think I'm just unlucky.
