Review on White Lux Cu100 Kitchen Digital Count πŸ•’ Up/Down Timer with Large Magnetic Back and Display by John Caine

A definite improvement over the mechanical lux timer!

When I got married in 1969, my wife introduced me to the Lux mechanical timer, which her family called "Ding" and so did we. I've found that mechanical timers tend to break down after shorter and shorter periods of use, so after the last one failed I decided to go with this electronic model. What I like about it is that it's loud (as loud as the timer function on my GE wired microwave, which says a lot), the beeping lasts until it shuts off (to be perfectly accurate - I have it as a test). beep longer than 2 minutes so it's possible that it will auto shut off sometime after that but I doubt it) and both minutes and seconds can be entered. The only very minor downside is that entering numbers requires scrolling until you reach the correct number, but the only way to avoid this is to use the full keyboard, which isn't really practical in this design. In terms of form factor, this device weighs a fraction of a mechanical timer and is flat, making it easy to slip into your pocket when you need to get out of the audible range. It has both a stand function and a magnet so there are many uses. And the battery that came with my timer was wrapped in plastic, which I found out the hard way had to be removed before the battery would work. Moron! Update: I've been using this timer for pretty much exactly 90 days; and by that I mean at least 4-5 times a day to time my various cooking activities (I count the 4 minutes it takes to cook my Irish oatmeal with 2 cups of water and then I set it to 30 minutes to to cook the oatmeal, I count the 11 minutes it takes for the water and pasta to boil, then the pasta itself, etc. This allows me to do other things in the other room and saves me having to be there directly, so as not to mess anything up). I love the fact that it's a lot louder than a mechanical timer and it keeps playing until turned off. A must-have tool in the kitchen for me, and when you look at it in terms of cost/benefit an absolute steal, "can't afford not to have one" value. I can't recommend it more highly.
