My Panasonic Blu-ray player broke completely after more than 12 years of use and even withstood a 7.1 magnitude earthquake last July. I used it mainly to play some Costco discs converted from Hi-8 tapes from my vintage race car camera. Unfortunately, Sony does not play these discs. Emailed contractor Costco about the situation and they explained that "some" very limited number of new players would not play discs manufactured by Costco. I suspect Sony's extremely low price limited the number of basic features they could offer in this player. My problem, not Sony.
