Review on Riedel Tumbler Spey Whisky Set - Enhance Your Whisky Experience with this Set of 2 Glasses by Todd Cowdrey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very stylish looking whiskey glass / chunky / thicker rim

Named after Scotland's River Spey (and made in Germany) it's simply stunning. Beautiful crystal glass. Complex design. At 15.1 ounces, they're heavy. I prefer something lighter, but heavier ones like these are also popular. The headbands are a little thick for my liking, which is odd as one of the properties of crystal is that it can be cut very thin. They hold just under 11 fl oz filled to the brim. They are 4 inches high and just over 3 inches wide. I recently "tested" a few different whiskey glasses with a scoop of Scotch, a splash of water, and some ice. "Ideal" was not found yet. Each has its own merits and demerits. Edit (4/19): In the last 2 months since writing I've found myself drinking more and more of the Atterstone 4 piece whiskey box set (separate review) and less and less of it. If the appearance of the vessel is important, these spaces are perfect. For personal/regular use I prefer the square style (like the Uttersons). The large Ralph Lauren brogans (separate review) are great when full and have thinner rims which is nice. But they're heavy and have more capacity than Scotch drinkers (like me) want. If you prefer mixed drinks, you can appreciate this volume. My least favorite is twist glass. The shape of the inner funnel and the heavy base make it difficult to estimate how much liquid is left when drinking. Side note: I recently enjoyed the 2002 film The Spy Game starring Robert Redford. At the end of the film, Redford is seated at his desk next to a bottle of whiskey and a beautiful glass that bears a striking resemblance to these Speys. If they're good enough for Redford, they're good enough for me. :) Riedel Spey: looks 5, weight 4, rims 3, volume/capacity 5, overall impression 4+
