Very cheap metal, feels like plastic. Overlaps the cork making the cork unusable.
EDIT - did the same as the other review and tried sticking a magnet to it. It's sticky, so technically it's metal, but as thin and plastic as possible. In addition, the cork is covered with metal so that the coasters do not even touch the cork. I am checking my rating for 3 stars. False advertising is NOT metal. General. Just cork backed plastic. Extremely surprising considering this is an officially licensed Nintendo product. If you're looking for metal coasters, keep looking. Pretty PO as I was in awe of them. Last time I bought a Paladone product
