First of all, I am writing this review solely from the point of view of an amateur photographer. I originally wanted a 70-200mm f/2.8 for my D700 but at half the price and after reading many positive reviews I went for it and was not disappointed. The first thing that strikes you when you pick up this lens is the build quality. The lens has a metal body and looks very durable. The image quality of this lens can be described as excellent. Images are sharp even when opened up to f/2.8 and the bokeh this lens can produce is simply amazing. My only criticism of this lens is that it doesn't come with a lens hood. Although they are inexpensive, you would think a professional lens would come with them. A few other things to note is that this lens doesn't have VR and doesn't have autofocus on lower-end cameras. It would be nice to have VR, but if you're shooting above 1/60 then you don't really need it. If you have an entry-level DSLR like the D3100, this lens will still work, but you'll have to focus it manually. spend two pieces on 70-200mm. I also only recommend this lens if your camera supports autofocus. This includes the following cases (D90, D7000, D300, D300s, D700, D3, D3s, D3x). This lens does not automatically focus on the following bodies (D3000, D3100, D5000, D5100). These listings include the latest models only. So if you have an older model body, make sure you do your own research before purchasing this lens.
