Worth the trouble

When I bought my new car, the 2011 Outback I wanted a backup camera but it was only available with a sunroof. What sets this device apart from many backup cameras is that: 1. It's not wireless, so it's more difficult to install, but it won't be interfered with by Bluetooth devices.2. I comes with a redundant ultrasonic sensor connected to a small display. When you get close to something, yellow rectangles will appear on the screen and the display will start beeping. The closer you get to the object, the redder the rectangles become.4. The camera and ultrasound are attached to the license plate bracket, so installation is relatively easy. The picture from the camera is clear and bright, the display is quite small, only about 2.5 inches, but it is sufficient for its purpose and it makes it easy to find an unobtrusive place for installation. My car is a hatchback so the number plate is part of the tailgate From - so I had to partially disassemble the tailgate to hide the wire (remember it's a wired unit) I then hooked the wire up under the seal on the headliner Moved to a position just above the rear view mirror Trucks and SUVs where the license plate is part of the bumper would be easier as the cable could then be coiled under the car. Installed for about 3 months, no problems so far, highly recommend.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
