The cable is plastic coated to prevent it from stripping paint from the inside and outside holes of the frame. I used a barb on a Shimano BH90 brake hose and screwed the barb all the way into the end of the hose. Then, while the cable was in a loop, I twisted the cable and screwed it into a notch on the tubing. Unwrapped the cord and placed it in the frame, when it reached the outlet I used a magnet to pull the cord out of the hole. I've used it on 3 different mountain bikes and it's worked great every time. A good product.
