I figured out how it works - you temporarily stick a piece of plastic over the dent and then pull on it to smooth the dent. That's theory. In practice things are a bit more complicated. My first attempt (not pictured) was to get a small dent out of our stainless steel refrigerator door. Actually it worked very well. only a small wave remained. So I tried it with confidence on my machine. There are a few small dents with no paint damage and then a large scratch which I tried to repair previously but it was still dented. First there was a small dent. I first cleaned the plastic tab, dent and glue stick with rubbing alcohol as instructed. Then glue the tongue in the center of the dent and let it cool for about 3 minutes. I then used the pull tool shown in the photo to pull the tab. In the end I actually pulled the tongue out of the car because you can't tell for sure from the tongue whether the dent is gone or not. So now I still had the glue stuck to the car. The instructions say to spray with alcohol and scrape with the plastic scraper provided. It takes a lot of effort and work with a scraper, but this can be achieved by leaving a thin layer of glue on the car. This glue is really sticky! Next I tried the little heater/scraper that comes with the kit. He heated the glue so it would scrape off easily. but STILL left a very thin layer sticking to the car. At this point, a lot of alcohol must be sprayed and scraped to remove the remaining adhesive from the surface. This was the most difficult part of the process. LOTS of scratch and glue removal work. I tried rubbing compound on it but that didn't completely remove the adhesive but it did remove some of the clear coat around it. It would be really nice if there was a solvent that would actually dissolve the glue without damaging the paint. But when all the glue was finally removed, he removed most of the dent. only a small wave remained. I then did the same with the scratch and after taping the tab a couple of times and pulling at different spots on the scratch it looks a lot better. The hot glue removed the paint I had previously applied which was fine as I was going to do it all over again anyway. The bottom line is to carefully select a tongue that fits snugly in the entire dent. If you make it too small, you'll end up with a hump in the center of the dent. If you make it too big it will pull on the surrounding flat metal and the dent will not line up. Second, it is very difficult to completely remove the glue. Finally, the instructions are VERY simple - how to apply glue to the tongue and how to use the various pullers. For example, what is the difference between black and clear glue sticks and when do you use them? How do I choose a puller to use? What is an airbag for? Why doesn't everything fit in one storage bag? And you really need instruction and practice using different tools on the metal itself to flatten it again. In capable hands with enough experience, I think this set provides just about everything you need to straighten dented thin sheet metal.
