Revainrating 4 out of 5

Interesting design, great customer service

I needed to replace the filter canisters on our bus. I came across this product while looking for Revain double filters. Like others, I couldn't find anything about who did it, anything really about it. I liked the price as the design was interesting to say the least. Unfortunately, the key that came with it was broken. I contacted the company and they quickly took care of the issue. (I was able to get it working though and didn't have to wait.) I haven't had any leaks, but I also use pipe sealant to back that up just in case. (You can never be sure.) I'm not sure about the design of the brass inner fitting that then turns to plastic. It seems to me that you will ask about such leakage problems. All other manufacturers I've seen have PVC fittings, not 1/2 brass and 1/2 plastic. But hey, it's not leaking right now, so far so good. I received a few of their filters in addition to the ones that came with them. At the moment they seem to be of the same quality as I've seen in other filters. (But how can you really tell?) One thing I found was that the 3M filters I used to use didn't fit the sediment filter as for some reason it was too small for a canister. I had to fit a gasket, like the ones you find on the bottom of a carbon filter, to the bottom sediment filter canister to keep it secure and leak-proof. If this were not done, the water would simply flow past the top and bottom of the filter. (Path or Least Resistance.) In the attached photo you can see the 3M filters installed. (They were already open, so I wanted to use them.) NOTE. This is NOT a problem with the included filters. They are good and sealed in the case. I wanted to mention this for those who choose to use a proprietary filter like 3M. Mounting plate is solid. Although not metal, it is still very strong and allows installation in any direction. However, the plastic key doesn't feel that strong considering the first one was broken and it's awkward to hold in hand as the edges of the handle aren't rounded and the feel is therefore not very comfortable. The good news is that you don't use it very often. However, I am concerned that if the canister was pulled too tight, removing it could fracture the wench. At this point you don't have an easy way to remove it as it's a completely different design with very large tops that you rotate rather than securing the canister itself. In other words, you can't just pick up the canister and flip it. While I couldn't find any information on this product, I have to say that the customer service was excellent. I strongly encourage them to add more product information to Revain. (i.e. who makes it and that it's made of food grade plastic.) I think the lack of this information might hurt sales as it's certainly an unknown 'appearance' and people will be interested in the build. Given the price, I took a risk. Note that they mentioned that they are the manufacturer, but I also found another person at Revain selling the same device at a higher price, not a better price.
