It's not sticky at all but a bit of tape will do. I needed an aquarium background because my widescreen 13 gallon aquarium was having problems with green algae so I had to limit the amount of light that got through. (Also, my fish are more comfortable with a background to hide in.) There was some extra material left over that I was able to trim, but I was too lazy to bother, so they just folded the sides together and I taped them together. Helped a lot with algae problems. There were several backgrounds in the set, so I chose the one I liked the most. Maybe someday I will replace it with another one or use different ones for other tanks.
