Brake pad design is hard work. The variables of heat, pressure, wear, cost, etc. are almost infinite and the product is part of a critical system. I once tried cheap pads from an auto parts store on a BMW and they were absolutely awful. So I feel better using pads recommended by one of the major automakers. Akebono makes most of the factory brake pads for Toyota and Honda. I now ride Hondas and am very happy with their performance and durability.
