I always take my laptop with me when we take family vacations for two reasons. The second reason is that I can work on it a bit if I ever need it. I have several laptops at home including Lenovo ThinkPad, HP ProBook, Gateway and Asus models. All my laptops EXCEPT Lenovo ThinkPads have an HDMI port which allows me to easily connect to the hotel TV to redirect video and audio from my laptop to the TV. Lenovo ThinkPads, on the other hand, have what's called a "DisplayPort," which is similar to an HDMI connector but doesn't fit into an HDMI cable port. I always carry a spare HDMI cable with me, so I remember to pack it when I go on vacation, but it was useless when I took a Lenovo ThinkPad with me. So I bought this Cable Matters DisplayPort to HDMI cable to have in my luggage with the HDMI cable. This cable is very thick and looks durable. I've had it for 4 years now and it still works great. My only minor complaint, which isn't a deal breaker, is that it's very difficult and awkward to press the latch when disconnecting from the DisplayPort. However, it looks like they fixed it by replacing the latch with a button-like latch. Finally, I wish I'd bought a DisplayPort to HDMI male to female adapter so it takes up less room in my luggage, especially since I always carry an HDMI cable with me, but generally this cable does what it says intended to do and works great with my Lenovo ThinkPad T420s model.
