Review on Master Lock Stainless Adjustable 2847DAT by Jonathan Robertson

I normally avoid writing VERY NEGATIVE reviews but it would be wrong not to warn the public about this product. The main benefit of the product for me was the ability to recode all locks to the same key. I wanted to use these on my RV for security while still maintaining the convenience of a single key. With this in mind, I purchased Master Lock Python #8491 Key Changer Kit. The kit, like the Revain advertisement, promised I could recode these locks. I believe I have the skills to do this job, having run a bike repair shop as a young man, remodeling homes for over 30 years, and recently successfully building a Windows server from scratch. I am not listing these achievements to show off but to assure the reader that I have some technical skills. The instructions in the key change kit seemed sufficient, but I struggled from the start. Despite calling my entire metro area I could not find a locksmith that has experience with these products. So I called Master Lock customer service. To say they didn't help at all would be an understatement. The technical manual they emailed for these locks and the kit was an accurate copy of the instructions in the kit. So I tried calling the company that sold me the key changing kit. Apparently they just sell things and have no idea how to work with it. If we look back at Master Lock's website, we see that there wasn't a single dealer in the entire state of Florida. So I went to Youtube, nothing useful. Then I asked my favorite search engine a few questions and found an old tutorial on the Python series. Believe it or not, there have been a few comments that have helped remove the cylinder plug from the lock body. I was able to reinstall the fork. Then, despite many hours of work, the plug was not installed back into the housing. So if you are considering buying these locks to replace (as advertised by Revain) I would advise getting an engineering degree. Master Lock didn't help, there are no dealers (at least in Florida) and none of the locksmiths I interviewed had any experience with them.
