Review on Verizon Jetpack 4620L Wireless Hotspot by Chad Michels

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Works great with my configuration

I live in the middle of nowhere and the only way to access the internet is through a satellite dish. It worked satisfactorily, but was expensive - $60 a month on a 2-year contract. I had AT&T for my landline but didn't want to pay them more than $40 a month. I also had a wireless connection from AT&T for two regular cell phones—another $60 a month. So I decided I wanted something better and cheaper. To access the Internet, I bought a Verizon Jetpack 4620LE. I wanted the 4620LE because it was 4G and had an antenna connector (I use a 7dB antenna). It worked great from the start. Then I bought a Cradlepoint MBR95 router. It has a USB port that I plug my jetpack into. It provides internet access, charges the jetpack and prevents the jetpack from falling asleep. Then I bought my Ooma phone which connects to the MBR95 router. I unplugged my internal phone line from an outlet outside my home and plugged the line from my Ooma box into a phone jack on a nearby wall. Now all the phone jacks in my house are connected to the Ooma device. I have a Panasonic cordless phone that I used to use as a landline phone and continue to use it as my main phone. Now I don't have a satellite dish, AT&T landline, AT&T wireless internet, free landline phone ($3.83 per month) and two smartphones for traveling. And I saved a few bucks too. Update 6/19/15 I have replaced my 4620 with a newer 6620. The 6620 also has an antenna connector. I'm still using the same configuration. 6620 is faster than 4620 but consumes more data.
