The previous chain lasted a few years. I've checked for wear and tear from time to time and finally decided on an exchange. I don't use any of those fancy sensors. First, I check the play on the large sprocket. If I can lift the chain more than 1/8", I measure the distance between 12 links. It should be close to 12". If it's over 12 1/8" I replace the chain. I love these Quick connect feature of SRAM chains, while I still have to use a chain breaker to remove extra links once the chain is sized correctly, it comes off easily if I ever need to remove it for cleaning or other maintenance. It also works great with a SRAM cassette and crankset.
