As a technician I decided to run some tests at the rental store to compare my new card reader to the standard readers they stocked. Lexar CR1 (the one without Thunderbolt 2) and a Codex cfast 2.0 reader (not sure which model it is). I used an Arri certified SanDisk Cfast 2.0 128GB card. I formatted the card and ran the tests via USB 3.1. The Gen 2 cables I had for all the card readers plugged directly into my Mac's Thunderbolt ports and with the cables that came with each card reader came through Nekteck's USB-A female to USB-C male adapter. Used both AJA system test and Blackmagic. Disk speed test to measure speed. RESULTS: I was very pleasantly surprised with my purchase! Compared to Lexar and Codex, my new ProGrade saw a 70MB/s increase in write speed and most importantly, a 75MB/s increase in read speed! That's 15% faster unloading if you have a fast enough drive. I'm very happy with my choice and hope it will show the same good numbers over time. Also of note is that I didn't notice any difference when changing cables, USB 3.1 Gen 1 doesn't seem to offer any advantage. speed difference. This is true as long as you are not using the ProGrade reader's Cfast and SD ports. Only here is USB 3.1 Gen 2 worthwhile. See screenshots and cheers!
