I think you can use it for coats and other stuff but I have it for hanging loungefly backpacks and so far it's perfect. It was very easy to assemble. There are instructions, but it's almost intuitive. This is unfinished wood so it will be easy to paint but for now I'll leave it unfinished. It's very light so it's easy to move around. I don't know if it would be great for hanging heavy things on if you don't balance it well, but it's surprisingly good for empty Disney themed mini backpacks. I'm just saying.
