I bought these coasters to use on glass tops and wooden bedside tables. use them - I even tried using one of the coasters to open the lid of the jar - it worked! I wouldn't have thought of doing this with a stand. I like that the coaster doesn't move or slip after it's placed on the table and the diamond shaped indentations allow the cup/drink to be lifted to keep condensation in the coaster. standing, not on the worktop.
