Review on πŸ”Œ Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter: Hassle-free Plug and Play Solution for Windows and Mac (AU-MMSA) by Chris Jenkins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not suitable for use with APRS or otherwise

I bought this sound card after reading DireWolf's setup guide with RPI and Baofeng UV-5R radio and having serious problems collecting and transmitting from packages (both require good sound quality) . Then I tried using this card to test it while playing on PC and the recording and playback was absolutely terrible. Interference could be heard and recording levels were very low. I then read more about these cards and also bought a version of the similar Syba card and opened both. Sabrent uses a C-Media HS-100B SOC and a very small number of components, the Syba version uses C-Media CM-119A and slightly more components and contains a 12MHz A-Crystal. I believe Sabrent has also used the CM-119A in the past, but was probably simplified to get a lower BOM cost with a single SOC solution. I wouldn't recommend a Sabrent sound card for using APRS or anything.
