I don't normally review a product I buy unless I really notice it, but I felt compelled to review the Q150 within minutes of hearing it. I admit, I originally bought them for the looks. The photos don't do it justice because they look absolutely amazing in person. Perfectly sharp edges and an aluminum woofer give it a sleek and modern look. Not to mention the range of Uni-Q drivers. I'm a huge Klipsch fan and while they sound clean and powerful, the Q150 has the perfect imaging. It's like there are no speakers. Because the tweeter sits squarely in the middle of the woofer, it doesn't matter what height or distance you hear it from, as the sound comes from a single point source. Build Quality: I have previously purchased a pair of Klipsch RP-500ms but had to return them at the moment due to poor quality control. From the packaging I could tell that these are expensive speakers. The vinyl wrapping of the case is very smooth and crisp. I couldn't find any flaws, especially at the edges. However, I warn you that it can be easily scratched if you're not careful. The woofer is well built and looks exquisite thanks to the aluminum material and waveguides. KEF's little 'name tag' looks very sleek and unique, unlike other brands of speakers that just print their logo on the cabinet. It's hard to see in the photos, but the "Uni-Q Driver Array" is printed in a dark blue that looks black to me. However excellent build quality. Sound quality: wow. It's very difficult to describe how they sound as the sound doesn't seem to come out of the speakers at all. What I can describe in detail is how sharp and clear everything is. Highly crisp and crystal clear. The center is clean and warm. Then there's the bass. Don't trust the frequency domain numbers. They definitely go beyond the claimed 51Hz. I was hesitant to buy a subwoofer from the RP-500m, but they produce an amazing amount of bass for their size. There are two 2-stage bass port plugs in the box: both foam pieces together, or you can remove the inner foam piece to make just a foam ring. My advice is to only wear them with outer foam as this compresses the bass and makes it less boomy. Overall they sound great. I mostly like electronic music and they are perfect for EDM or house music. Deadmau5 sounds fantastic on them. Likewise, they will sound great in almost any genre of music. I connect them to a 100w Nobsound TPA3116 mini amp and it's enough power. I recently bought an Audioengine N22 amp and while it sounded great with KEFS, unfortunately it had unbalanced channels. So I'll stick with Nobsound for now. I'm sure they would sound a lot better with a high end amp, but that shows how forgiving they are about powering. In summary, they're great for near-field listening: punchy bass, warm mids, and crystal-clear highs. They have to be cracked because they sound harsh for the first few hours. After that they become soft and warm in sound. Easy to listen to and beautiful to look at. Can't wait to see what KEF does in the future!
