There is a big difference between an extension cord and a surge protector. Power strips and multipliers without surge protection provide no protection. For the same price, or maybe even less, this 6-socket multiplier includes a surge protector with a visual indicator that it's working. How is this one different? In general, the higher the Joule rating that a surge protector provides, the better the level of protection it offers to connected devices from power surges and surges. This offers 1080 joules.
