I can say I generally agree with the other 5 reviews to date. This book is a collection of articles by various authors published in other sources, including the journals Primitive Technology I and II (Bulletin of Primitive Technology) and Stephen Watts' Practicing Primitive. As such, the content varies from chapter to chapter, some more detailed than others. I found the chapter on Paiute Deadwood and wicker baskets with whole shoots particularly helpful and enjoyed some of the stories told. The book's subtitle "The Outdoorsman's Guide to Shelter, Tools, Weapons, Tracking, Survival and More is a bit misleading in that this book does next to nothing for emergency shelters, and I would take the survival part a little lightly. Sure, there are some useful survival tips, but as one reviewer said, you don't want to get stuck in a survival situation with this book. I recommend this book to people just starting out with an interest in ancient technology, or to those looking for a synopsis or introduction to ancient world. It can also be useful for those looking for basic basket making and pottery instructions.
