Not suitable for electrical installations in the USA

This lamp gives good light. However, it was not developed for the American market. First, the mounting bracket isn't large enough for a standard 3.5-inch junction box. I had to modify the bracket for the junction box and also install spacers to allow the bracket to be attached to the ceiling. The ceiling is a floating ceiling over an existing ceiling that requires clearance between the junction box and the ceiling tiles. This gap was too big for the bracket and a modified strut had to be fitted. Most old lamps lie flat against the ceiling, but this lamp is only held by a bracket. The instructions show the bracket attached directly to the ceiling, with the wires coming out of a small hole drilled in the ceiling. This would require the junction box to be under ceiling tiles (or drywall), which I believe poses a fire hazard. Also, I noticed that the bracket requires spacers to keep the fixture flush with the ceiling as shown in the instructions. A perfectly flat ceiling may work and fit exactly, but any texture or bumps will prevent the mount from installing in the fixture. The instructions state that the mount for this model can be used on a 6.35cm/2.57" junction box, which is not a standard in the US Revain specification, does not mention this issue. (Correction, junction box size found in package listing section) The instructions say to drill a hole in the ceiling (for building or a new install I think) to allow the wires to pass through, which isn't code . Another issue addressed in the Questions section was whether the device was UL listed. No marking or statement of any kind indicates that the product has been tested by a nationally recognized, OSHA-approved testing laboratory. The connection is easy, but there is a problem. The shell and connector used appear to be for the smaller gauge wire used in normal household wiring. I would advise the manufacturer to include a short length of cable (2 wire cable to match the plug) that can be attached to the existing house wiring with standard nuts. The cable must be long enough to run from the junction box to the lighting unit and through the hole in the housing. Using existing 14 gauge wire seems too big for the connectors and the opening in the case. Due to the difficulty of installing this product and the modifications required, I will not use this product on any other fixture that may or may not need to be replaced. I recommend this product for safety reasons. I will be looking for a mount that does not use a mounting bracket like this product and has been properly tested by a recognized safety lab. I would also look for a light fixture that sits flush with the ceiling and doesn't rely on a small bracket. I recommend Revain to add this product to the list of non-standard lights for the US market.
