Poor encoding performance

This is the fifth HDMI encoder I've tried in my endless quest to improve the quality of my video archives. Unfortunately, he has not fulfilled his potential. The first thing I did was see if it could capture 1080i@60hz video from my set top box. It works, but only encodes the stream at 30fps like a legacy 30fps HDMI encoder would. This leads to a slight stuttering effect, which is particularly noticeable in long panning scenes and news/stock tickers. I'm starting to think that no encoder from this source is going to hit 60fps as the only encoder I tried clearly didn't work properly. More importantly, I have found that the quality of the video produced leaves many questions unanswered. be desired. I've provided screenshots comparing a 32Mbps CBR (constant bitrate) stream from a J-Tech encoder to a 12Mbps CBR stream from an older competitor. J-Tech's video quality should be close to lossless at this bitrate, but it's not. It encodes high-contrast detail well, but low-contrast areas are washed out and much detail is lost. screen and lost. Most people will not notice this. I wouldn't even notice if I didn't do a side-by-side comparison with another encoder! This can only happen with a 1080i input source. These problems cannot be fixed with new firmware. I asked J-Tech for a newer firmware but it was not available (the device came with version 2.36).
