Review on 🔵 Ritchey Blue Rim Strips, 26x20mm by Charles Fowler

Revainrating 1 out of 5

They can cause the inner tube to fail.

Rating changed from my original five stars. Two brand new Serfas spike-resistant inner chambers failed shortly after installation. The culprit: these rim tapes. Their stiffer construction and slightly wider patch actually caused friction on the inner tube. The first hose rupture was a 1/2 inch tear near the inside rim. I thought I had a broken camera with a vulnerability and installed a new camera. Failed again two days later. Not just a small cut this time, but a progressive cut that lines up with the rim strips for over four inches. This happened with the rear tire carrying a lot of the load. I have no doubt that it will only be a matter of time before the front camera suffers the same failure. Let's get back to the old rim tapes. First review: I had no trouble fitting them as some said you just have to pull a little to get them on the rim. I think that's even better, because then a really strong connection is established. What I found useful was that once installed, I took a half-width flathead screwdriver, placed it under the edge of the rim and lifted the strip. Then insert a screwdriver underneath so that only the round bar makes contact between the band and the wheel. I continuously drove the screwdriver along the rim. This allowed the rim tape to sit perfectly in the middle. It's also a very easy way to align the valve hole on the band with the valve hole on the rim.
