We already had a set of Darice knitting machines and wanted a second set so more people could make hats. The machines themselves make it very, very easy to make hats. Learned to crochet as a kid and endlessly frustrated, this "knitting" is insanely easy by comparison. My 8 year old mastered it very quickly. The loom of this particular brand is made in such a way that the handles and the ring are in one piece. (The handles of the Darice loom can fall out - which can be an advantage under certain circumstances, but annoys me personally.)
