Review on ☕ Stainless Steel Capresso 12-Cup Percolator Coffee Maker by Amanda Perkins

Looks good but produces weak beer

Overall I was pleased to find a stainless steel percolator that contained what appears to be a stainless steel basket and stem. It appears to be well made and it's a nice coffee pot too, with a blue light that lights up when the coffee is ready. However, after brewing a Starbucks Sumatra pot, which is a fairly strong dark blend, with this coffee maker, the coffee was surprisingly weak. Changing the amount didn't help. Using the same Starbucks blend but with less ground coffee, the coffee is amazingly strong! The coffee brewed in the Capresso was hot and I love a cup of HOT coffee! I personally didn't notice the metallic taste mentioned in another review. However, I boil the water in the pot first and let it sit for a while to purify before using it to make coffee. Maybe it helped? Like everything else, Capresso is made in China, so maybe the stainless steel used isn't food safe? This is an interesting point worth considering or checking out. Example: If 405, the number after Capresso, indicates the type of stainless steel used, not the model number, 405 stainless steel is a ferritic stainless steel. Type 405 contains 12% chromium with aluminum added to prevent hardening. Ferritic stainless steels generally have better technical properties than austenitic stainless steels, but have lower corrosion resistance due to their lower chromium and nickel content. They are usually cheaper too. Ferritic stainless steels have a body centered cubic crystal system and contain 10.5% to 27% chromium with very little nickel if present, but some grades may contain lead. another stem basket to solve the weak coffee problem? Also the coffee maker I received looked like the previous one. Maybe the previous owner had the same weak coffee issue? Mine is back too :(
