Great engraver for beginners

This laser engraver is a good choice for beginners, but be aware that it takes a long time to learn. The best thing about this engraver is the high quality look and feel and consistent engraving. The worst thing about this engraver is the problems I had connecting to LightBurn and the poor instructions. This machine claims installation is painless as it claims it comes 60% pre-installed. That wasn't the case with me. I don't have much experience with laser engravers, but most people buying a machine at this price point are probably newbies too. It took me over an hour to assemble this laser. The instructions are quite vague and difficult to read, However, the company has thoughtfully included an installation video that you can play on your computer. However, the video is from an older model of the machine and doesn't quite match the current laser. There are several screws that are different and this has caused some serious confusion. Both the brochure and the video state that to mount the laser itself to the platform there must be 4 M3*8 screws. They only contain 2 screws M3*8 and 2 screws M3*12. When I found out it wasn't a big deal but they had to update their video and brochure to reflect the changes. I also had a few spare screws left, so I had to watch the video in its entirety to make sure that I didn't miss a single step. Not me. After the setup was complete, I tried using the laser with LightBurn. The software didn't register the laser at all, even following Twotrees' accurate video instructions. This video is not included on the SD card they ship with the laser, but it can be found online if you search. After spending a lot of time looking for answers and not finding any, I downloaded LASERGRBL and followed the installation instructions. After completing this setup, which included instructions on how to download the drivers, I returned to LightBurn and everything worked fine. While someone with more experience than me might have figured it out sooner, it annoyed me that the instructions for setting up the laser with LightBurn didn't show how to load the drivers. Once the laser was fully set up I was able to do some good engravings and I've experimented with cutting without success so far. The engravings I was able to do were pretty decent for a beginner, and with more practice and a bit of tweaking, I think I could make some pretty impressive items. Overall I think this laser is a good choice for anyone looking to get into laser engraving. The 300mm x 300mm area is large enough for most start-up projects, and the consistent engraving gives projects a quality look once completed.
