I received an updated version with a finished SATA III controller. Although actual bandwidth doesn't fully utilize even SATA-II (300MB/s supported), NAND flash speeds are reasonable when writing and very durable when reading. The system I installed this on was previously booted from a USB 2.0 flash and the boot time has been greatly reduced! SWAP RW is much faster on FreeBSD. This drive was purchased for a FreeNAS server running a large ZFS disk cluster. With 32TB of share space, I noticed a delay when transferring large files over CIFS over Samba, with the complexity for the server increasing over time, dropping to 30MB/s in some cases. With this SSD hosting the OS the lag is almost gone and the ZFS "RAID" runtime has been reduced to almost transparent and I can maximize gigabit speeds at around 120-130MB/s which is definitely due to the reduced SWAP -Access is attributed. Reaction time. In my case, a cheap SSD was worth buying 16 GB of DDR2 memory, which would cost more than a server case! For situations where speed is required but price is an issue, this is a great solution.
