Review on 🚴 Urban 500 Bike Headlights by Light & Motion by Darius Carraway

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Severe drop in quality over the past few years

I drive a lot at night and have had about 8 of these headlights in the last 10 years and they used to be the best and most reliable headlights out there. I've broken (due to wear and tear) and lost a few of these over the years and it hasn't been hard to replace them with the same ones. The old ones, where the lowest setting "pulses" between two brightness levels, had the best lights around, and I still have a few that work great. They were virtually indestructible and withstood years of daily commuting. I dropped one and broke the mount and still use it as a flashlight. The other one fell out and went down the drain because I didn't insert it all the way into the bracket. The new low flashing models are terrible and I won't be buying them again. I bought 4 (3 from Revain) and only one still works. Others just won't charge, but of course the warranty has expired. I've tried disabling the lock and there's no problem. Also, the ultra-bright blinking at the lowest setting is ill-conceived, blindingly bright, and just plain useless. I have no idea when I want it. I used to use the lowest ripple level when riding on bike paths or trails away from cars where there was enough ambient light and I only needed to light the trail directly in front of me. The blinking is so bright and distracting that I just can't use it for that. It's supposedly safer to ride next to cars, but I always use a mid-level when I'm outside. One thing I noticed was that the old headlights said "Designed and Assembled in the USA" while the newer headlights just said "Designed". In California.” Apparently there is a quality control problem somewhere.
