Too bad for five stars. I would give 10 stars. Why? I love freshly made "hard" ice cream. This device can intelligently make "hard” ice cream on the fly in about 60 minutes. I've discovered the secret to making "really hard ice cream" is that at some point during the shake cycle, the mixture becomes too thick to stir and sticks together into blades. This is when I keep pushing the mix manually and throwing the blade to keep the mix whipping. As a result, the mixture gets colder and harder with every revolution. Eventually the mixture will become too hard for the motor to stir the ice and the ice maker will stop to protect the motor from overheating. According to the owner's manual, stopping the motor is a built-in safety feature, which is normal when the ice gets too hard to beat. Now a new thought that made this a 10 star rating. For those suffering from a condition called gastroparesis, as you all know, soft or liquid foods are preferred. This ice machine completely changed our approach to treating gastor palsy. We now make ice cream out of liquid protein drinks like Atkins or Cost Co energy drinks which my wife has to take to help cope with this condition. This ice cream maker has brought a lot of joy to my wife, who has overcome this disease, because now she can eat "ice cream" while meeting her dietary needs. I even cook some for myself because nutritious ice cream drinks are sooo good to eat as "ice cream". I cheat and add whipped cream and fresh fruit. Now let's prepare batches of chocolate and vanilla ice cream and put it in the freezer. Of course, freezing freshly made ice cream solves the "hard” cream problem and makes me a very happy tourist! I would recommend purchasing an extended warranty.
