I bet it was littered with fake reviews: five stars and cartoons in bad english. I had something similar a few years ago but got rid of it thinking I had done a VHS C-tape to digital transfer. Well I was wrong. Now I pay a lot of money for hot garbage. Check out a few reviews to see how many people point out that these things come without any indication whatsoever. You might think you don't need them because they're just a simple adapter. . . .I charged the AA battery fairly easily. However, there is no indication of how the adapter opens. I looked at the photos to determine where it was articulated and stuck my fingers in to open the opposite side of those loops. There is a slider labeled "ON". Slide and hold these to allow a very weak motor to open the door. If the battery is not new, the door will not open. Insert a VHS-C cassette, lower the door and a very low power motor will lock the door and rewind the VHS-C tape for playback on a conventional VHS player. The problem is that there are no printed instructions explaining how to use the product and its use is neither obvious nor intuitive. It would have been easy to put the instructions on the box, but someone gave up. As a result, it is assumed that the adapter will not work, especially if someone has had the misfortune of charging a bad AA battery. I have to laugh at the many returns as there are simply no printed instructions. Besides the lack of printed instructions, there are other problems. The adapter just isn't very reliable. At first, my VHS player wouldn't rewind or fast forward the tape. Instead, it threw the tape back and forth over and over again before something finally decided to work and I was finally able to play the VHS C-tape with no issues. And finally, the fast forward and rewind functions worked. Perhaps a part needed to be run in before work? By the 1990s, these types of adapters were ubiquitous and reliable. Now, in the 2020s, we're stuck with underdeveloped technologies for a shrinking market niche. I don't trust the high ratings of this product and suggest looking for something else from the manufacturer. Again, this is a niche market, and perhaps at first my VHS didn't rewind or fast forward the tape.
