I have long argued about this and some other light sources. What ultimately made me buy it was an image in the product description titled "Set Dimensions" showing what looks like a male connector ending in a female end. BUT the lanterns just end up in a bulb and there is no way to splice two or more strands together, at least to my knowledge. the plastic cladding seems to be very durable and as outdoor lighting makes for a good atmosphere, if not overly festive. can look like "warm white led christmas light"
