Fantastically easy to use fitness tracker makes me more active in the office.

I work at a desk and bought one of these to stay more active during the day. I reviewed the original VivoFit; Although I wanted the VivoFit 2, it was a bit out of my price range. I saw these refurbished models at a cheaper price and bought one. The device I received is an officially refurbished Garmin device and has all the functionality of a new device. I don't know what needed to be fixed on my device; it looked brand new. No wear or damage. It was easy to set up. I already had Garmin Connect on my laptop (due to GPS) and just followed the instructions to add VivoFit 2. I synced with an Ant+ dongle; I haven't tried Bluetooth. I chose the VivoFit 2 because:* I needed a simple device that would track my activity, help me set goals, and encourage me to be active at specific times throughout the day.* I wanted something with replaceable batteries. I want to use something for as long as possible, and I don't feel comfortable throwing the device away because, for example, lithium-ion batteries are soldered into it. . The original VivoFit didn't have either. The device is easy to use. In the morning after waking up I sync it with my laptop and go about my business. I let the device show me the total number of steps I've walked or the number of steps I have left until I reach my daily step goal. After not moving for a while, VivoFit will make a soft beep to remind me to move. When that happens, I usually go for a walk in my office building. When I reach my daily goal, a beep will sound to let me know I've made it. In the evening I put it in sleep mode (press and hold the button until "Sleep" appears) and take a nap. The biggest benefit I've gotten from VivoFit 2 is that it helps me realize that I need to be a little more active and fit. . Because I wear it on my wrist, every time I see it, it reminds me to do what is best for my health. When I'm in my office and I need to get something done (e.g. drink water or go to the bathroom), I take the longer route: a few extra steps mean a little more exercise. Regular activity reminders work: when VivoFit beeps, I step out for a few minutes. I sync once a day. It's simple: I'm sitting at my laptop and with the Garmin Connect app running, I press and hold the VivoFit button until "Sync" appears. Release the button and it will connect to the laptop. A few seconds and you're done. Once synced, you can go to the Garmin website and view your fitness stats. I usually sync manually (which means I have to press a button to start syncing), but one day VivoFit surprised me with an automatic sync. I don't know what caused it. There are a few issues with the VivoFit 2. Because they're designed to be worn on the wrist, they can perceive some hand movements as steps and artificially inflate the step count. Things like working on the computer or other office tasks don't seem to affect him, but brushing his teeth really fools him and my step count increases significantly. I've put the VivoFit in my pocket before and it still seems to work, so I think that's an option. The strap is very comfortable to wear (I wear it a bit loose) but extremely uncomfortable to take off. Any time I try to remove the strap from my wrist, I expect to hear a click and see broken parts of the strap or clasp. I think the strap buckle design is good for those who are very active and never want to take the VivoFit off, but for someone like me who doesn't like wearing a watch etc in the shower this is disappointing. I can go with an aftermarket group if I can find a good one.
