Review on High-Visibility 8 Inch Metric 5-Piece ARES 70011 Set by Josh Cooper

Rubber insert

I bought this set because I needed a 14mm spark plug head, I already had several spark plug heads in other sizes, but I decided to buy a new set for all spark plug sizes, I have read ALL the reviews before buying read these sockets and some said that the rubber insert pops out of the socket when the spark plug is installed ated, which causes additional work. Considering myself an advanced hobbyist I decided to purchase the set as there were so many more 5 star reviews. When removing the very first spark plug from the socket, the rubber insert came out when the spark plug was removed from the socket. Upon inspection I noticed that there is NO "notch" in the bushing to allow the rubber insert to be held securely in the bushing. In addition, the rubber inlay does not appear to be of high quality. I chose NOT to use a grommet when installing new spark plugs, instead using long needle nose pliers to carefully lower the spark plug into place so as not to alter the spark plug gap. I tightened all the newly installed spark plugs with a 14mm spark plug wrench without an insert. I decided to keep this socket set as I like the easy to read outside engraving and I like the 18mm size. I will only use these heads with the rubber inserts removed when installing the spark plugs. I will be using spark plug heads with built in rubber inserts to REMOVE the spark plugs from the engine. If in the future I can't install a spark plug with long needle nose pliers I will use a telescopic tool which is magnetic. I intentionally gave this tool ONE star as it DOES NOT match the description.

Pros
  • permanently available SPECIFICATIONS: Your spark plug socket set includes 5/8", 3/4", 13/16", 14mm and 18mm sockets and a reusable storage aid. Clearly visible markings ensure you specialize these Identify sockets in your tool box.A precise rubber retaining ring ensures the plug stays in the socket during the removal and installation process, and the 6-point tapered socket ends grip the flats of the fastener head, not the corners, for a round-off
Cons
  • Periodicity
