We looked at this stool for a long time and finally decided to buy it. So glad we did. Yes, it really smells when you take it out of the box for the first time. I think that's to be expected from an animal skin product. It's definitely real leather. We let it air out for 3 days and now that it's inside it looks and feels amazing! It doesn't have a strong smell. We filled it with whatever we could find that was being stored away anyway. Definitely happy with this product. Docked a star just for the smell, but then again, we're most likely just going to be spoiled.
