It heats up in 15 seconds. After seeing other glue guns boasting that they heat up in 2 or 3 minutes I thought this one exaggerated the heat up time. heats up and is ready while other models are still heating up. But no, I set a timer and held the power button, the LED actually went from red to green in 15 seconds and I pulled the trigger to see the glue being squeezed out of the nozzle! Wonderful! I really don't like that it uses tiny glue sticks, I almost sent it back, but Gorilla Glue sells high strength mini glue sticks so I'll try those. The reason I hate mini glue sticks is that they're very hard to find locally while regular glue sticks are everywhere, but I think I'll live with it if it allows for a 15 second heat.
